What is Hometown Heroes?
The Florida Hometown Heroes program provides up to $25,000 in down payment and closing cost assistance to Florida's community workforce. The funds come as a zero-interest second mortgage that is forgiven over time — meaning if you stay in the home, the assistance becomes a grant.
Who qualifies?
The program is open to Florida's frontline and essential workers, including but not limited to:
- Teachers and school staff
- Nurses and healthcare workers
- First responders (fire, police, EMT)
- Military veterans and active duty
- Social workers and child care workers
- Manufacturing and trades workers
- Retail and hospitality workers
- And many more — the eligible occupation list is extensive
